OREANDA-NEWS.  September 12, 2014. One of the speakers at the plenary session of an international event - “Competition Day in Russia” was the Head of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor), Anna Popova.

She pointed out that year after year the role of the antimonopoly bodies for control and surveillance over free competition and restricting monopolistic activity in the Russian Federation is increasing.

The Head of Rospotrebnadzor described the most important fields of activities for cooperation with the Antimonopoly Service.

“Our bodies watch unlawful advertising carefully. Rospotrebnadzor believes that it requires further development of cooperation with FAS Russia since with rapid advancement of communications technologies the significance of protecting consumer rights for full and reliable information about goods, works and services is increasing”, emphasized Anna Popova.

Ms. Popova supports the position of the antimonopoly authority that the institution of class actions must be implemented. “Only a consolidated position of government bodies on the issue will help achieve the goal for increasing the government–guaranteed level of protecting consumer rights and legitimate interests promptly and efficiently”.

The Head of Rospotrebnadzor mentioned the problem of selling drugs via the Internet. “We believe that it’s time to tighten control over Internet-based retailers. In particular, we are working on the issue of making changes to the law of the Russian Federation,that will set additional requirements to trading via e-stores”.

Summing up, Anna Popova expressed hope for further close cooperation and wished participants every success in establishing common competitive environment.
