OREANDA-NEWS. October 27, 2014. A new natural gas law complying with Directive 2009/73/CE of the European Parliament to be adopted in Moldova in the first half of 2015.
 
This matter was discussed at a working meeting at the Economy Ministry devoted to the implementation of provisions of the Third energy package by Moldova. The meeting was held as part of the EU AT-PSPS Energie (The Technical Assistance for Implementation of the Sectoral Policy Support for Energy Sector).

It was attended by specialists of the Economy Ministry, EU AT-PSPS Energie experts, representatives of the Agency for Energy Regulators Cooperation, the Energy Community’s Secretariat, the EU Delegation to Moldova, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Swedish International Development Agency, state-owned and private enterprises. The participants of the meeting noted that as a full-fledged member of the Energy Community and a contracting party Moldova has to comply with European requirements regulating this field and to attach the top priority to the compliance with provisions of the EU third energy package, the press service of the Economy Ministry informs. On the first stage of introducing the third energy package, the compliance of the existing natural gas law with the EU requirements is going to be assessed. On the second stage, a new natural gas bill is going to be drafted in line with EU Directive 2009/73/CE.

The bill is supposed to be voted into a law in the first 6 months of 2015. Moldova’s Deputy Economy Minister Valeriu Triboi said Moldova’s authorities hoped the development partners and international institutions would support Moldova in drafting the new law. According to him, Moldova’s abilities to attract investment in the natural gas sector will enhance thanks to the introduction of the EU legislation and thanks to the entry to the better developed and more predictable market.

The representative of the Energy Community Secretariat proposed the drafting of the natural gas bill start and the participants of the sitting be included into a working group on the elaboration of the new gas bill.
