OREANDA-NEWS. Belarus' President Alexander Lukashenko has ordered the government to switch trade settlements with Russia to U.S. dollars and euros from Russian rubles, he said at a government meeting on Thursday.

"There is a goal to do trade with Russia not in rubles, but in dollars, as we pay for energy sources," Lukashenko said.

A lot of customers already pay dollars for Belarusian products, but if they pay rubles, a relevant exchange rate is used, Lukashenko said.

Belarus is suffering losses incurred by the Russian ruble's devaluation, as its supplies to Russia account for around 40% of country's exports, the president said.

"There are no dead-end situations: if we lose anything somewhere, we need to look for compensation elsewhere and cut production costs," Lukashenko said. "There is no point in making complaints. We need to live and work under any conditions," the Belarusian president said.
