OREANDA-NEWS. On July 10, Doosan Yonkang Foundation (Chairman Y.H. Park) held a ceremony in downtown Seoul to present the 2015 Doosan Yonkang Academic Award for best medical article. The winner of this year’s award was MN Kim, a fellow of the Division of Gastroenterology at CHA Gangnam Medical Center, who received 20 million won (about \\$20,000) and a plaque.

The paper that won Kim award was “Increased Risk of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Chronic Hepatitis B Patients with Transient Elastography-defined Subclinical Cirrhosis,” which was published in Hepatology in March 2015. This study concluded for the first time that transient elastography can help identify hepatitis B patients who do not have Cirrhosis but are at risk for developing the most common type of liver cancer.

The Doosan Yonkang Academic Award for Medical Articles was established in 2006 to contribute to medical research in Korea and motivate young medical researchers.
