In August 201 5 compared with July 2015 , seasonally adjusted industri al production fell by 0. 5 % in the euro area ( EA19 ) and by 0. 3 % in the EU28 , according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union . In July 2015 industrial production rose by 0.8% and 0.4 % respectively .

In August 201 5 compared with August 201 4 , industrial production in creased by 0 .9 % in the euro area and by 1.9 % in the EU28 .

Monthly comparison by main industrial grouping and by Member State

The decrease of 0.5 % in industrial production in the euro area in August 2015 , compar ed with July 2015 , is due to production of energy falling by 3.0%, capital goods by 1.0 % and non - durable consumer goods by 0.1%, while production of intermediate goods rose by 0.2% and durable consumer good s by 2.3% .

I n the EU28 , the de crease of 0.3 % is d ue to production of energy falling by 1.2%, capital goods by 0.3 % and non - durable consumer good s by 0.1 %, while production of intermediate goods remained stable and durable consumer goods rose by 1.3 %.

Among Member States for which data are available, t he largest de creases in industrial production were registered in the Czech Republic ( - 4.3%), Croatia ( - 4.1 %) and Lithuania ( - 3.5 %) , and the highest in creases in Sweden (+4.0 %), Greece (+3.9 %) , Denmark and France (both +1.6%) .

Annual comparison by main indus trial grouping and by Member State

The in crease of 0 .9 % in industrial production in the euro area in August 2015 , compared with August 201 4 , is due to production of durable consumer goods rising by 4 . 5 %, capital goods by 2.8% and non - durable consumer goods by 0.9%, while production of intermediate goods fell by 0.6 % and energy by 1.6%.

In the EU28 , the in crease of 1.9 % is due to production of durable consumer goods rising by 3.6%, capital goods by 3.1%, energy by 1 .8%, non - durable consumer goods by 1.1 % an d intermediate goods by 0.2 %.

Among Member States for which data are available , t he highest increases in industrial production were registered in Ireland (+1 5 . 0 %), Malta (+9.3%), Latvia (+6.4%), the Czech Republic and S weden ( both +6 . 3 %) . Decreases were o bserved in the Netherlands ( - 8.9%), Estonia ( - 2.7 %) , Finland ( - 2.3 %) and Slovakia ( - 0 .4 %) .
