OREANDA-NEWS. Ford Fund donated $100,000 to support an Education Aid Program in southern Taiwan, which was recently hit by a 6.4 scale earthquake on February 6. The disaster caused widespread damage and 116 deaths in the area.

The aid program was part of the southern Taiwan earthquake emergency relief actions initiated by a local NGO, Taiwan World Vision. With societal care in mind and in line with Ford’s CSR strategy of sustainability, road safety, education and community service, Ford Lio Ho (FLH) cooperated with the NGO, supporting its education aid program for children in the affected areas of Taiwan.

According to the Ministry of Education, the earthquake in southern Taiwan affected 451 schools. The 3-year program intends to help the impacted children get back to school safely, as well as provide them with educational materials, tuition aid and an after-school program.

“Education is big part of Ford’s CSR strategy,” said Tim Ju, president, Ford Lio Ho. “It’s our belief that recovery from disaster is a long journey, and education is a part we need to address and extend our support on.”

At the time of the disaster, FLH initiated a free car-towing initiative for any vehicle, as well as a discount on any needed parts and services. In concert with the education aid program, employees were also given the opportunity to support the NGO with personal donations.
