OREANDA-NEWS. Parts of Russian floating nuclear power plants will be built at the shipyard in Nantong. A Chinese manufacturer has won a tender for the construction of two nuclear power plant buildings for the needs of the Baim Mining and Processing Plant, writes «Kommersant».

Atomenergomash summed up the results of the competition for the construction of the first two buildings for modernized floating power units intended for the power supply in Chukotka. The Chinese shipyard Wison (Nantong) Heavy Industry Co Ltd was recognized as the winner. The contract value was $225.8 million, which is about 30% lower than the maximum auction price. The first building with a residential superstructure should be delivered by October 2, 2023, and the second — by February 2, 2024.

The first two modernized floating power units should start supplying electricity in January 2027. The total cost of the construction is more than 140 billion rubles. The Baltzavod, which is traditionally engaged in the construction of civilian ships with a nuclear power plant, is loaded with the construction of four icebreakers, although reactors and turbines for power units will be installed there. In addition, the third and fourth buildings of power units will be built at the Baltzavod.
