OREANDA-NEWS By the end of 2024, the total catch of the most popular pollock fish in Russia increased significantly compared to the figure for 2023 and came close to a record high of two million tons. This is reported by the newspaper Izvestia, citing data from the Association of Pollock Miners (ADM).
The organization clarified that last year, Russian fishermen were able to catch a total of 1.99 million tons of pollock. This made it possible to preserve the status of the main fish in the country. The achieved result, as noted in the association, exceeded the figure for 2023 by about 38 thousand tons.
Russia has managed to significantly outperform its main competitor in the global market by 640 thousand tons. Thus, the total production of pollock in the United States in 2024 amounted to only 1.35 million tons. Against this background, the ADM predicted that Russia would retain the status of the main producer of this fish in the world in 2025.
Earlier, the association reported a sharp increase in the production of raw materials for crab sticks and other popular delicacies in Russia. By the end of 2024, the total production of pollock surimi in the country increased by 47 percent compared to 2023 and reached the level of 70.8 thousand tons. The increase in physical terms was 22.5 thousand. Such dynamics, as specified in the ADM, allowed the Russian Federation to enter the top five world leaders in terms of surimi production.
