OREANDA-NEWS. September 09, 2016. UPS (NYSE:UPS) announced the appointment of Daryl Tay as the Managing Director of UPS Vietnam. With 16 years of experience in UPS, Tay will lead UPS’s express delivery, freight and logistics operations in Vietnam.

“Vietnam is one of the most dynamic markets in Asia and we’re excited about its growth potential. With 109 years of experience and world-class global capabilities, UPS is well-positioned to help Vietnamese businesses expand internationally,” said Jim O’Gara, President of UPS South Asia District. “Daryl brings deep market knowledge and expertise in the vertical industries across the region, and I look forward to him leading UPS Vietnam to the next phase of expansion.”

In his previous role as the Director of Enterprise Marketing Strategy for UPS Asia Pacific Region, Tay expanded UPS’s regional product portfolio including the expansion of the UPS Worldwide Express® service to more than 23,000 postal codes in Asia including Vietnam, and the introduction of the China-to-Europe rail solution that helps customers balance cost and speed. He also contributed to the enhancement of UPS’s network which led to the acceleration of UPS’s intra-Asia transit times by up to one full day across more than 35 trade lanes connecting 41 markets.

“I am looking forward to taking on this role at a time where Vietnam is rapidly progressing with the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Vietnam-European free trade agreement,” said Tay. “When venturing overseas, Vietnamese businesses will have to meet certain service standards, such as meeting short turnaround time, to become a supplier of choice. This is where UPS comes in. We are here to help businesses of all sizes overcome cross-border trade problems in an innovative and effective way. I am particularly looking forward to helping Vietnamese SMEs unlock their potential so that they can achieve success on the world stage.”

Tay joined UPS in 2000 and has since helmed various roles from Strategy to Marketing. In 2010, he assumed the role of UPS China’s Marketing Director and relocated to Shanghai. He played an instrumental role in creating the strategic alliance between UPS and AliExpress back in 2010, which enabled Chinese businesses to connect with global online buyers and sellers. The alliance strengthened Chinese businesses’ logistics processes with access to UPS’s full suite of delivery services as well as supply chain, warehouse and freight solutions. Tay succeeds Jeff McLean, who is now the Director of Corporate Internal Audit for UPS Asia Pacific Region based in Singapore.
