OREANDA-NEWS. Approximately 1.5 million Android and iOS apps have not been updated for more than two years and may be removed from the Google and Apple digital stores. It is reported by The Sun, citing a Pixalate study.

According to Pixalate experts, Google Play has the most abandoned apps at 869,000, while the App Store has 650,000.

It is noted that among the “forgotten” there are most often educational applications, reference materials and games, which, as a rule, are popular with children.

At the end of April, Apple announced that it would be removing obsolete apps from the App Store. Google, in turn, hides applications that are not updated by developers from search.

It is noted that legacy applications are more susceptible to hacking, as they may lack the necessary fixes for vulnerabilities that are discovered over time.

Earlier, Gazeta.Ru said that a domestic app store NashStore for Android was launched in Russia. While only developers can register in it, it will become available for ordinary users on May 16, 2022.

“Since the announcement of the app store, more than 250,000 people have pre-registered on the NashStore website. We plan to make the most convenient app store in Russia,” said Vladimir Zykov, project director at ANO Digital Platforms.
