OREANDA-NEWSRussian gas can and should be delivered to Europe, but the United States intends to increase the supply of its energy resources to countries in this part of the world. This was announced on Thursday by US Under Secretary of Energy Mark Menezes, speaking in Washington at a conference on the 25th anniversary of the signing of a contract to develop a block of Azeri - Chirag - Guneshli (ACG) fields on the Caspian shelf.

“Of course, Russian gas can and should remain a part of diversified energy sources in Europe. However, our goal is to support and facilitate efforts to strengthen the independence, sovereignty and energy security of European states through wider diversification of energy sources. For these reasons, we continue to support the growth of energy trade between the US and Europe, as well as its own efforts to increase the competitiveness of its energy markets and investment station in the new infrastructure", the deputy minister assured.

"The United States strongly believes that energy can never be used as a means of political pressure or as a threat to the collective security of our allies and partners", said the deputy minister.
