OREANDA-NEWS The introduction of economic sanctions against Russia will bring significant losses to the EU countries, Valery Korneychuk, associate professor, lecturer of the Department of Financial Disciplines of the Higher School of Financial Management, told IA REGNUM.

"The Nord Stream-2 pipeline, jointly with foreign partners, is currently connected to Germany and is in the state of certification. The delay in the launch of this project, first of all, has a negative impact on the European gas market, additional gas supplies to which could significantly reduce energy prices.

The projected loss of Gazprom PJSC from the delay in the launch of the gas pipeline is not traceable, since the calculations for the contract gas received through other pipelines according to the price formula, taking into account market prices, have already recouped the costs invested in the project from the Russian side.

The Russian gas unclaimed by Europe will go to China, an agreement on the construction of a new gas pipeline with which has already been signed. Russia has already calculated all the options for the development of events and proved to be stable in the current situation. Europe will consume American LNG, which is two to three times more expensive.

American LNG suppliers will empty the pockets of Europeans and earn good money. Europe will be the loser. Germany understands this best of all, demanding the lifting of sanctions against Russia's energy sector in the event of a "hypothetical invasion" of Russia into Ukraine," the expert explained.

A day earlier, Assistant to the US President for National Security Jake Sullivan in an interview with NBC estimated the timing of the launch of the Nord Stream-2. In his opinion, the Russian gas pipeline will not work for several more months.
