OREANDA-NEWS  Global demand for passenger air transportation increased by 13.8% year-on-year in March, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported.

IATA measures demand by completed passenger turnover (RPK, a measure of the actually used passenger carrying capacity, denotes the movement of 1 passenger over a distance of 1 km).

The maximum passenger turnover (ASK, a measure of the passenger carrying capacity available to the airline, indicates the movement of 1 passenger seat over a distance of 1 km) increased by 12.3% the month before last.

The load factor increased by 1 percentage point (percentage points) to 82%.

On international flights, RPK rose by 18.9%, APK - by 18.8%, download - by 0.1 percentage points, to 81.6%.

On domestic flights, the figures increased by 6.6%, 3.4% and 2.5 percentage points, respectively (to 82.6%).

"Demand for flights is high," says IATA CEO Willie Walsh. "And there are all signs that it will remain that way at the beginning of the summer travel season in the northern hemisphere."
