OREANDA-NEWS. Chernobyl should be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This opinion was expressed by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. The Ukrainian authorities have included the over-the-horizon radar station «Duga» in the Chernobyl exclusion zone in the state register of immovable monuments. Now the object is under state protection, said the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of the country Alexander Tkachenko. Thus, the chances of Chernobyl being included in the UNESCO World Heritage List increases.

The accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is one of the most famous man-made disasters in the world. It occurred on April 26, 1986. 35 years after the explosion, the situation in the area of the city of Pripyat, located on the territory of Ukraine, leaves much to be desired.

«Now Chernobyl still causes goosebumps, even 35 years later. Hundreds of thousands of people come to Ukraine every year to see the exclusion zone. The place that used to breathe life is now deserted. Slowly crumbles. We are moving to ensure, that the UNESCO World Heritage Site preserves it and gives future generations the opportunity to see everything. And not only from the pages of history textbooks and documentaries», Alexander Tkachenko wrote on Facebook.
