OREANDA-NEWS. October 13, 2016.  CSC (NYSE: CSC), a global leader in next-generation IT services, today announced that it has been selected by Sundhedsdatastyrelsen, the Danish Health Data Authority, as the new IT partner for the National Patient Register (LPR) program.

The LPR is a national electronic patient record, containing patients’ medical details and information about their contacts with the Danish healthcare system. This September, CSC took over responsibility for development and delivery from CGI, which had previously delivered the system. The initial contract term is six years, with an optional two-year extension.

The LPR is a single source of truth about Danish citizens’ health and wellness patterns, and is a key element of the management of health provision in the country. The information in LPR is used for managing payments between healthcare providers and for evaluating national healthcare initiatives. CSC will work with the Danish Health Data Authority to deliver the LPR3 (the third generation of LPR), which will include enhanced details of each episode of care, allowing for improved insights into the use of resources and healthcare costs.

CSC will future-proof and modernize LPR

Explaining the choice of CSC, Lisbeth Nielsen, CEO of the Danish Health Data Authority, said: “LPR is entering a new and exciting phase. The database has to become future-proof and be reorganized in order to meet current security standards, and to ensure that information about the entire episode of care can be described more accurately. In our assessment, CSC presented the best bid and the strongest vision, and we have selected them as our partner for LPR3 the next-generation of the LPR program.”

“Building on our global experience providing patient record systems and population health programs, we are taking an approach that ensures an accurate picture of episodes of care across departments, hospitals, general practitioners and regions,” said Philippe Blanco, industry general manager for healthcare and life sciences, CSC. “CSC has extensive experience delivering sophisticated healthcare systems in Denmark, including the prehospital healthcare record and a health data platform that collects information like all hospital and primary care medication and prescriptions, all death certificates, the national vaccines register and all lab results. With LPR3, we will build on this experience to provide a national patient registry that improves collaboration and coordination across the healthcare ecosystem.”
