OREANDA-NEWS  Imports of European goods to Russia exceeded exports for the first time in history, according to the European statistics agency Eurostat.

The volume of exports of Russian products amounted to 21.7 billion euros, while imports of goods from the European Union to Russia amounted to 22.2 billion euros.

The trade balance increased to 1.5 billion euros. "The EU recorded a positive trade balance with Russia for the second quarter in a row, an unprecedented phenomenon in the history of statistics since 2002," the agency said.

The trade turnover between the EU and Russia from January to September of this year amounted to 43.9 billion euros, which is 12.9 percent lower than in the same period last year. Russia sells mainly fuel and energy complex products to European countries, and buys chemicals.

Earlier it became known that in the first eight months of 2025, Russia's total revenues from gas supplies to the European Union (EU) increased to about 9.75 billion euros. The increase in purchases of Russian gas by European countries is taking place against the background of plans to abandon it.
