OREANDA-NEWS  At the beginning of 2026, the number of retail outlets in Russia decreased compared to the same period last year. This is the first time such dynamics has been observed since the early 2000s. Forbes writes about this with reference to the data of the Infoline consulting company.

According to its founder Ivan Fedyakov, there were 4,500 fewer stores in Moscow in a year, and almost 3,000 in St. Petersburg. In general, the situation in the country is no better than in the largest cities. The trend is spreading to all segments — grocery stores at home, supermarkets, fruit kiosks, communication salons and clothing stores.

According to the company's estimates, last year was the worst in terms of the dynamics of new convenience stores in modern history. The number of new point openings dropped six-fold, which was recorded for the first time since 2017.
