OREANDA-NEWS  In November, exports of goods from India increased despite the duties imposed by US President Donald Trump. This is reported by Reuters.

Shipments of goods to the United States increased by more than 22 percent year-on-year. In total, the country began to export 19 percent more products. The volume of shipments increased to 38.13 billion dollars, to a record level over the past 10 years.

Stable exports have allayed concerns about a prolonged downturn caused by tariffs after trade talks between the two countries collapsed. As a result, at the end of August, in response to New Delhi's purchase of Russian oil, Trump doubled duties on Indian goods to 50 percent, the highest level among other countries. According to analysts, the recovery in exports, combined with the country's strong domestic economy, reduces the need for New Delhi to make concessions in negotiations with Washington.

"After the recovery of exports from the United States, despite the lack of tariff relief, India has the leverage to seek tariff reductions from 50 to 25 percent, especially after a sharp reduction in Russian oil imports," said Ajay Srivastava, founder of the Global Trade Research Initiative.

Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that US President Trump's words about the lifeless economy of this BRICS country are not true. She called for assessing the state of the economy based on reliable data, rather than individual comments, and drew attention to the country's 8.2 percent GDP growth, as well as the fact that the Reserve Bank has revised upward forecasts for the further dynamics of this indicator.
