OREANDA-NEWS The European Union will work to restrict trade in Russian diamonds, European Council President Charles Michel said at a briefing in Hiroshima on Friday before the G7 summit.

"Russian diamonds are not eternal," Bloomberg quotes Michel as saying.

The agency notes that at the EU level, a ban on the diamond trade will require the support of all member states.

The head of the European Council also announced the measures taken to monitor the implementation of sanctions against Russia and continued support for Ukraine.

Earlier, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that he was introducing a ban on the import of Russian diamonds, copper, nickel and aluminum.
