OREANDA-NEWS Egg prices in Russia are largely regulated by market mechanisms, their growth at some point gave way to a decrease, companies operated with almost negative profitability, Maxim Shaskolsky, head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia, told reporters.
"I must say that, for example, market mechanisms may be working, there was an increase at some point, then there was a sharp decline, companies were operating with almost negative profitability," he said on the sidelines of the agency's tariff conference.
Shaskolsky recalled that the egg market is competitive and many producers and sellers participate in it. At the same time, the service uses preventive measures. "We have sent letters to both large companies and retail chains about the need for socially responsible pricing," the head of the department added.
