OREANDA-NEWS   By the end of October, the total volume of imports of Chinese passenger cars to Russia reached its highest level since the beginning of 2025 and amounted to 1.38 billion dollars in monetary terms. A sharp increase in imports of vehicles from this Asian country is reported by Interfax, citing data from the General Customs Administration (GTU) of the People's Republic of China.

In the second month of autumn, Chinese passenger car exports to Russia increased by 44.9 percent compared to September. However, even such an increase did not allow to correct the negative dynamics since the beginning of the year. So, in the first ten months, the total volume of imports of this type of car from China to the Russian market dropped by 48.4 percent compared to the same period in 2024. In January-October, the figure in money amounted to 6.4 billion dollars.

For most of the year, such dynamics were influenced by the oversupply of Russian car warehouses, experts say. Given the ongoing decline in sales, it is not profitable for dealers of Chinese car brands to import cars into the country in the same volumes. In such conditions, they will strive to get rid of the impressive remnants of cars gathering dust in warehouses. This problem has not been solved so far, despite subsidized loan rates and seasonal discounts.

Demand for Chinese passenger cars is steadily falling due to a number of factors. Analysts attribute the negative impact of the Central Bank's tight monetary policy, the general rise in car prices in Russia, and prohibitive market rates on car loans to the main reasons. Additional problems for the industry are added by the regular increase in recycling, the nearest of which is scheduled from December 1. As a result of the innovations, Sergey Tselikov, head of the Autostat analytical agency, warned that many popular cars in the country, including Chinese Geely Monjaro crossovers, would become noticeably more expensive. In the current circumstances, there is no reason to expect a rapid revival of sales in the Russian market, concluded Andrey Terlyukevich, head of the Avtospeccenter group of companies.
