The thieves stole 55 tons of copper cable, and then simply left the facility through the main gate, the tabloid The Sun reports.

According to the newspaper, the cable was stored on the edge of the runway at the airbase. The attackers cut a hole in the fence through which the truck passed and loaded 16 coils weighing 3.5 tons each onto it. Since the heavily loaded car could not drive through the grass, the robbers left through the main entrance.

"They were driving a truck with a crane almost to the runway - it's amazing that they weren't caught," a media source said. "They left through the main gate. They just smiled, waved, and got away with it."

According to the source, as a result of the incident, damage was caused in the amount of 400 thousand pounds (about 41 million rubles).
