Belarus reveals retaliatory sanctions against the EU

OREANDA-NEWS. Belarus will ban imports of a number of goods from the European Union and the United Kingdom as a response to "illegal external sanctions", the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"The resolution will be signed as soon as possible. Necessary measures will be taken to saturate the domestic market with similar goods from friendly countries," the ministry said.
For example, in response to the sanctions against the Belarusian aviation industry, which are based on "unfair competition," Minsk will take similar steps against airlines from the EU and the UK.
Moreover, Minsk will expand the list of persons undesirable for entering the territory of Belarus and the Union State. The Belarusian authorities will also implement a number of steps of "non-public nature.
As one of the most significant reciprocal measures, Belarus named the implementation of Union programmes and the strengthening of economic integration with Russia.
Minsk will also continue building trade and economic relations with the EAEU member countries (Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan) and with the countries of the "far arc" (countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America).
On the eve, Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko announced that Belarus would voice its response to the Western sanctions.
December 2, the European Union approved the introduction of further sanctions against Belarus. In total, restrictions were imposed on 183 individuals and 26 organizations. The restrictions, including the Belarusian airline Belavia, the Syrian airline Cham Wings, the Supreme Court judges, hotels Planeta and Minsk, as well as the heads of border guards.
In addition to the EU countries, the new sanctions were imposed by the US and the UK. Western countries accuse Minsk of orchestrating the migration crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border.
