OREANDA-NEWS Brazilian President Lula da Silva said that direct trade talks with American leader Donald Trump after the imposed 50 percent US duties would be a "humiliation" for him. His words are quoted by the Reuters news agency.

At the same time, according to Lula da Silva, Brazil has no plans to announce the introduction of mutual duties. In addition, the authorities will not abandon negotiations at the cabinet level, but the leader himself is in no hurry to call the White House. As the president noted in an interview with reporters, at the moment when his intuition tells him, he himself will not hesitate to call Trump.

"Today, my intuition tells me that he [Trump — approx. "The tapes.ru"] doesn't want to talk. And I'm not going to humiliate myself," Lula da Silva added.

In his opinion, relations between the United States and Brazil are at their lowest level in the last 200 years after the head of the White House linked the measures imposed with his demand to end the prosecution of right-wing former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is accused of plotting to cancel the 2022 elections.

Da Silva also announced his intentions to hold a meeting with the leaders of the BRICS member countries to develop retaliatory measures to Washington's duties.
