OREANDA-NEWS  China opposes any unilateral actions in violation of international law. This is how the European Union's (EU) initiative to seize Russia's sovereign assets was commented on by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian, RIA Novosti reports.

"China has consistently opposed any unilateral sanctions that violate international law and are not authorized by the UN Security Council," the diplomat stressed.

He added that all parties involved in the negotiations on Ukraine need to create a favorable background for ending the conflict through political and diplomatic means.

Earlier it became known that Belgium rejected a new EU proposal to use frozen Russian assets to issue a loan to Ukraine a few hours before the European Commission was supposed to submit a corresponding bill. The country's Foreign Minister Maxim Prevost said that the submitted text of the document does not meet the requirements of the Belgian authorities.
