OREANDA-NEWS  Air Force (Air Force) The United States can increase the volume of purchases of fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighters only after solving problems with their modernization. The condition for full-fledged purchases was named by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, General David Allwin, in an interview with Defense One.

"Dissatisfaction over delays in the modernization of Block 4, coupled with a broader reorientation of the Pentagon budget, has led to the fact that, according to the budget proposal for 2026, the Pentagon will buy only two dozen aircraft - half of last year's plan and fewer than the 44 aircraft purchased in 2025," the material noted.

According to Allwin, the Air Force will increase purchases after it is able to buy fighters that are "most suitable for combat operations." Department officials note that they need an aircraft modified to the Block 4 level, and not a machine that will have to be upgraded later.
