OREANDA-NEWS  The border crossing in Narva on the Russian-Estonian border has been closed to vehicles since Thursday, while it remains possible to cross the border on foot, the BNS news agency reports.

Bus service between Estonia and Russia via Narva will not be interrupted, but passengers will have to cross the border on foot and transfer to another bus on the other side of the border.

Earlier, the press service of the Northwestern Customs Administration (NWTU) reported that the Ivangorod International Automobile checkpoint (MAPP) on the border with Estonia in the Leningrad Region has been suspending work since February 1 due to reconstruction.

At the same time, the pedestrian border crossing will remain open, the ministry said.

According to Rosgranstroy, the main work at the checkpoint is planned to be completed in two years.

After the reconstruction, 16 traffic lanes will operate in the MAPP, which is two more than before the modernization. The capacity of the point will increase by 22% in terms of the number of vehicles (up to 1,860 cars per day) and by almost 40% in terms of the number of people (up to 11.3 thousand people per day), Rosgranstroy notes.

Those wishing to get to Estonia are offered alternative routes - through the Shumilkino automobile checkpoints (adjacent Luhamaa checkpoint) and "Kunichina Gora" ("Koidula") in the Pskov region. According to NWTU, they work daily and around the clock.
