OREANDA-NEWS The Isamaa party has again submitted to the Estonian parliament a bill on the complete closure of the border with Russia. The fact that the country is thinking about such a decision again is reported by ERR.
The chairman of the party, Urmas Reinsalu, explained that the bill is aimed at ensuring the security of the Estonian people. If the border is closed, the country's authorities will be able to reduce the risks of unforeseen incidents, he added. As positive examples, Reinsalu drew attention to the experience of Poland, which has already closed the border with Belarus, and Finland, whose border posts with the Russian Federation have also stopped working.
The party chairman stressed that such a solution would be much more effective in cooperation with Latvia and Lithuania.
In March, the Estonian government reviewed the first bill of the Isamaa party on closing the border with Russia and abandoned this idea. 14 members of Parliament supported the initiative, while 61 opposed it.
