OREANDA-NEWS.Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov and head of the EU mission in Moscow Marcus Ederer discussed on Monday the issues of the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan on the Iranian Nuclear Problem. This is stated in the message of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"The state of affairs in some areas of arms control was discussed. The problems of the Joint Comprehensive Comprehensive Action Plan were also considered", the document says.

The problem of the Iranian nuclear dossier escalated after the United States unilaterally withdraws from the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan on May 8, 2018 and the introduction of American economic sanctions in the field of oil exports against Iran. According to the Iranian side, the remaining parties to the transaction, primarily Europeans, are not fully fulfilling their obligations in the economic part of the agreement, so the transaction in its current form doesn't make sense.

Iran is committed for 15 years not to enrich uranium by more than 3.67% (such uranium is used in power reactors, uranium with enrichment up to 20% in research and experimental reactors, with enrichment more than 20% for creating nuclear weapons) and to support enriched uranium reserves at a level not exceeding 300 kg, and also not to build additional heavy water reactors, not to accumulate heavy water (more than 130 tons) and not to develop a nuclear explosive device.

The uranium enrichment plant in Fordo Iran is to be converted to a nuclear, physical and technological center, and the heavy water reactor in Arak is rebuilt to conduct peaceful nuclear research and the production of radioisotopes for medical and industrial purposes. Iran must sell the excess amount of nuclear material in exchange for natural uranium and export spent nuclear fuel outside the country.
