OREANDA-NEWS  The Council of the European Union (EU) has decided to exclude sanctions bans on the import of sable fur from Russia. The European Commissioner for International Partnership, Joseph Sikela, announced the revision of the restriction regime, as quoted by TASS.

Speaking at a special hearing of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, a representative of the European Commission (EC) stated the need to suspend sanctions against Russian fur, as the industry of some countries depends on this very specific product, having no alternative sources of supply.

"As a result, all 27 EU countries have unanimously agreed to introduce targeted exemptions for sable pelts," Sikela explained.

According to the European Commissioner, he himself fully supports sanctions against the Russian Federation, so his speech in the European Parliament in defense of suspending restrictions on the import of sable fur causes him protest and cognitive dissonance. Despite this targeted easing of the sanctions regime, the European Commission is committed to "supporting Ukraine and increasing pressure on Russia" by imposing new sanctions, in particular, it continues to develop a new 22nd package of restrictions against the Russian Federation, Sikela assured.

Earlier, Germany proposed lifting sanctions against Russia for the sake of cheap gas. This statement was made by politician Sarah Wagenknecht.
