OREANDA-NEWS Some of the military initiatives of European countries, including the plan to create a so-called "drone wall" against Russia, failed even before they were implemented. This is reported by The Washington Post (WP), citing sources.
"Some of their plans, such as the creation of a drone shield on Europe's eastern borders or the development of a Franco-German-Spanish next-generation fighter jet, are failing even before their launch," the newspaper reports.
In particular, the European Union's (EU) 100 billion euro plan to create its own fighter jet, which was supposed to be an alternative to the American-made F-35, is mired in the struggle of companies wishing to make a profit for this project.
In addition, Brussels' proposal to build a "drone wall" near the border with Russia "did not arouse much enthusiasm." Some European leaders noted that the name "clumsily describes the necessary high-tech detection and protection capabilities."
According to European officials, Europe is facing many challenges in the process of preparing for the militarization of the community. These include conflicting interests of national governments, the division of the defense industry along national borders, and differing perceptions of threats in the east and west.
Earlier, the press bureau of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) stated that the EU countries are on the verge of a socio-economic crisis due to their desire to defeat Russia. The ministry added that the budgets of the member states of the association are empty.
