OREANDA-NEWS Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginene said on Tuesday on TV3 that a representative had been appointed to hold bilateral political talks with Belarus.
"We could certainly hold this meeting, we have a responsible person appointed for this, but we have made it clear to both our strategic partners and the entire society that we have certain conditions. It cannot be that one side is preparing and the other is not doing anything," Ruginene said.
The name and position of such a negotiator are not disclosed.
According to Ruginene, among the conditions put forward by Vilnius to Minsk are the cessation of incidents with smugglers' balloons at the border, the return of all Lithuanian trucks from special parking lots in Belarus without any financial conditions, as well as solving the problem with illegal migrants.
"As soon as the basic conditions are fulfilled, I think we will be able to consider the possibility of taking certain measures on our part," the Lithuanian Prime Minister said.
Earlier, in an interview with the Lithuanian National Television and Radio LRT, special envoy of the President of the United States John Cole called on Vilnius to restore dialogue with Minsk, saying that Belarusian potash fertilizers, from the producer of which the United States lifted sanctions, should be supplied to foreign buyers through Lithuania.
