OREANDA-NEWS  Pyongyang conducted a number of important tests of its weapons this week, including a tactical ballistic missile warhead and an electromagnetic weapon system, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reports.

"On April 6, 7 and 8, the National Defense Academy and the General Directorate of Rocket Science of the DPRK conducted a test of an electromagnetic weapon system, (...) The test evaluates the applicability in combat conditions and the power of a tactical ballistic missile's dispersed warhead," the report says.

It is noted that the tests showed that the cluster warhead of the Hwasongpo-11a type surface-to-surface tactical ballistic missile is capable of "destroying a target with super-powerful density (...) with an area of 6.5-7 hectares."

In addition, carbon fiber imitation bombs and a short-range mobile anti-aircraft missile system were tested.

On Wednesday morning, the South Korean Yonhap news agency reported that the South Korean military detected the launch of several short-range ballistic missiles from the territory of the DPRK towards the Sea of Japan.

According to estimates by the South Korean military, the missiles flew about 240 km. This was the fourth launch of ballistic missiles by North Korea this year.
