Russia named the reason for Slovakia's confrontation with the EU

OREANDA-NEWS Slovakia opposes the initiatives of the leadership of the European Union (EU) in order to continue profitable supplies of Russian gas to the country. This reason was given by Alexey Grivach, an associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, in an interview with NSN.
"Regarding Slovakia, this is a sound position. For them, it's also a matter of finances. Because receiving gas under a long—term contract and purchasing it on the spot market at new price targets are, as they say in Odessa, two big differences," he said.
The expert noted that the ban of EU countries on the purchase of gas from Russia, which is planned to be introduced at the end of 2027, may remain formal. As an example, he cited Bulgaria, which formally does not buy Russian gas, but receives it from Hungary, Greece and other buyers "through various exchange schemes."
Earlier, the Deputy speaker of the Slovak Parliament, Tibor Gaspar, promised that Bratislava would negotiate with the European Commission to continue Russian gas supplies. He stressed that the decision to completely stop importing gas from Russia does not meet the interests of either Slovakia or the EU as a whole.
