OREANDA-NEWS  UNESCO will remain a platform for Russia to promote projects in the field of culture, science, education and cooperation with friendly countries. This opinion was expressed on Friday in St. Petersburg by the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for international cultural cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoi.

"UNESCO will become for Russia the platform where many Russian projects in the field of culture, science, education will be promoted and receive the worldwide sound that they deserve. In this sense, the position of Western countries seems counterproductive to me. We have always believed and still believe that culture, education, science in any situation are the channels of communication that allow us to create a certain atmosphere of trust. It is clear that our Western colleagues have a different point of view, but I think UNESCO is still an important organization for us, in which we work not only with Western countries. UNESCO is a huge number of countries - Asian, African," he said.

The Special Representative of the President called the design of the restoration of Palmyra monuments an important Russian initiative for world culture. In his opinion, the refusal of other countries to cooperate with Russia on this issue would be a "short-sighted step." "We will not impose anything on anyone, but we are not going to refuse to cooperate either, and even more so we are not going to isolate ourselves. The world is great, and in this sense we have every opportunity to develop all areas of our humanitarian activities," he added.
