OREANDA-NEWS Sudan has been overtaken by a difficult humanitarian situation due to the ongoing civil war between the army and the Rapid Reaction Forces (RDF). This is reported by The Washington Post.

"Conditions on the ground are getting worse. About 20 million Sudanese face severe food shortages. About 14 million children do not have access to basic services, including education and medical care, such as vaccination," the article says.

It is noted that 80 percent of medical institutions in Sudan are not working due to lack of supplies and electricity. Moreover, the warring parties are attacking hospitals.

In addition, residents are concerned about the imminent onset of the rainy season. Potentially, the country will have to cope with large-scale floods and the spread of water-borne diseases.

In April 2023, armed clashes began in Sudan between the regular army and the Rapid Reaction Forces (RDF). The reason was the conflict between the head of the Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the commander of the SBR Mohammed Hamdan Daklu (Hamidti).
