OREANDA-NEWS Iran has begun charging some commercial vessels for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The amount became known to Bloomberg sources.

Some ships pay up to two million dollars per flight to cross the transport artery. Fees are collected individually and are informal in nature.

So far, sources say, the mechanism of such transit payments remains unclear. The practice is not systematic, and therefore carriers do not have certainty.

As previously noted in The Wall Street Journal, Iran, as part of possible indirect negotiations with the United States, will seek the opportunity to charge a fee for the passage of the Strait of Hormuz. According to the publication, representatives of the Arab countries held talks with both sides of the conflict separately for several days. According to their assessment, "huge differences" remain between Washington and Tehran, in particular, due to the demands for the end of the war that Tehran allegedly put forward.
