OREANDA-NEWS  Colombia will need $9.5 billion to rebuild after the recent devastating earthquake, President Abelardo de la Espriella said. This is reported by the broadcaster Caracol.

"Direct physical losses, according to estimates by one of the private companies, will amount to about 30 trillion pesos ($9.5 billion), of which 24.5 trillion pesos ($7.8 billion) will be needed to restore buildings, and 5.5 trillion pesos ($1.7 billion) must be allocated to restore infrastructure. Just imagine the scale of the disaster," he said.

According to de la Espriella, at the moment 289 people are considered victims of the earthquake, 4187 more were injured, 143 people are missing. The natural disaster affected more than 120,000 families, destroyed about 27,000 homes, and damaged 127,500 homes.

On August 10, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck central and western Colombia. The Geological Survey of Colombia recorded 130 aftershocks after the earthquake.
