OREANDA-NEWS  If the European Union and the United States cannot agree on import duties, Brussels may impose additional taxes on American technology companies. This was stated by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the Financial Times reports.

We are talking about taxes on income from digital advertising, which, in particular, will affect such big technologies as Google and Meta (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).

According to the EC chairman, Brussels would prefer to negotiate in the United States and conclude a fully balanced agreement, but just in case, it continues to work on a wide range of retaliatory measures.

At the same time, she stressed that the trade war with the whole world, which Washington has started, is leading to a complete turning point in world trade and is becoming a "turning point in relations with the United States."

"We will never return to the status quo," von der Leyen stated, adding that the European Commission tried to negotiate until April 2, when US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of duties, but it was refused. Soon after, Europe agreed on retaliatory measures.
