OREANDA-NEWS Finnish law enforcement agencies have suspended the seizure of Russian state assets, the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat reported on Friday.
"The new seizures have been suspended pending a decision by the Helsinki Court of Appeals on Appeals or until another ruling," the newspaper notes.
According to the newspaper, the seizure was suspended based on the decision of the Helsinki Court of Appeal, which, in turn, is based on the September decision of the Court of Appeal in The Hague, according to which the original arbitration tribunal did not have jurisdiction over all assets subject to seizure.
The seizures of Russian state assets were carried out on the basis of the decision of the Helsinki District Court in August 2024 on the claim of the Ukrainian state holding Naftogaz and its subsidiaries. The court then decided to seize Russian state assets worth more than $4 billion.
By October 2024, real estate worth more than 40 million euros had been seized, Helsingin Sanomat notes.
At that time, the Russian Embassy in Finland sent a note strongly protesting against the actions of the Finnish authorities. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia would challenge the Finnish court's decision and defend its own interests.
