The Ministry of Industry and Trade named the key challenges of domestic shipbuilding

OREANDA-NEWS The shortage of large-capacity dock facilities of ship repair enterprises and the effect of Western sanctions on the supply of components are now the main challenges for the Russian shipbuilding industry, in these conditions it is necessary to increase the competitiveness of Russian enterprises, said Roman Chekushov, Deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
"Of course, the problem is the shortage of large-capacity dock facilities of ship repair enterprises and sanctions for the supply of spare parts and equipment. Of course, we need to increase internal capacities and increase the competitiveness of our ship repair enterprises," Chekushov said during the parliamentary hearings in the Federation Council "On the implementation of the strategy for the development of the shipbuilding industry for the period up to 2036 and for the future up to 2050."
He also drew attention to the fact that currently almost 70% of ships are repaired in other countries. According to the deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, these are mainly China, South Korea and Turkey.
