OREANDA-NEWS  US President Donald Trump's decision on the possibility of imposing duties on oil exporters to Cuba is "completely insane" and completely contrary to international law. The relevant statements by the Russian Ambassador to Havana, Viktor Coronelli, are quoted by TASS.

According to the diplomat, the difficult situation with fuel on the island is a direct result of the blockade imposed in practice by the White House.

"These are actually sanctions against third countries that trade with Cuba," Coronelli also said on Rossiya 24. He expressed the hope that in this regard, "the voice of the world community will be heard."

The fuel situation in Cuba began to deteriorate after the Americans conducted a military operation in Venezuela on January 3 to capture its President Nicolas Maduro. Caracas, which had stopped exporting, was one of Havana's main oil suppliers. On January 29, Trump signed a decree, which was discussed by the Russian ambassador.

After that, Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, in response to a question about the export of Russian tourists, called the situation in Cuba "really critical." The Russian authorities recommended suspending the sale of tours there.
