OREANDA-NEWS  The United States plans to withdraw all American troops from Syria - about 1,000 people, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing sources.

According to the newspaper's interlocutors, the US military will leave Syria within the next two months.

Earlier it was reported that the US military had left its main al-Shaddadi base in Al-Hasakah province in northeastern Syria. The facility was occupied by the Syrian army, and the transfer of control over the base took place in coordination with the American side.

Also last week, the Americans withdrew from the at-Tanf base in southern Syria.

In April 2025, The New York Times reported that the United States had begun reducing the size of its military contingent in Syria. The military planned to close three of the eight bases in the northeast of the country, reducing the number of troops from 2,000 to 1,400. At the same time, the American command of the troops on the ground recommended "leaving at least 500 American troops in Syria."
