OREANDA-NEWS  Since the United States does not intend to respect the rights of migrants, in this case it is worth moving the Statue of Liberty from New York to the Colombian city of Cartagena. This opinion was expressed by the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro, as quoted by the Semana newspaper.

"Americans consider themselves a superior race, being white (...). But those who really fought for freedom were blacks who founded the first free territory in America. Let's talk about what's really important: democracy and freedom. Otherwise, this statue must be moved from New York to Cartagena," the head of state noted.

In addition, Petro criticized the migration policy of the current American administration headed by President Donald Trump. In particular, he was outraged by the construction in Florida of a specialized detention center for illegal immigrants in an area where alligators and other dangerous animals are located.

On July 1, Trump opened a new detention center for illegal migrants in Florida, unofficially named Alcatraz with Alligators. It is reported that the 3,000-bed facility will become the largest detention center for illegal immigrants in the United States.
