Turkey has lost gas supplies from Iran
Source: OREANDA-NEWS
OREANDA-NEWS Iran has stopped exporting natural gas to Turkey after the Israeli strike on its South Pars field last week. Bloomberg writes about this with reference to its sources.
The publication says that Ankara previously purchased 14 percent of imported gas from Tehran, which it has now lost for some time. Its authors recalled that Iran periodically suspended exports "even in peacetime," which usually occurred against the background of rising domestic demand in winter. Currently, the parties are not making official statements about the timing of the resumption of supplies.
The strike on South Pars triggered a new wave of escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, which further accelerated commodity prices and once again collapsed markets in Asia and other regions of the world.
Against this background, the situation in the economy, which depends on oil and gas supplies from Turkey, forces the local Central Bank to consider the possibility of selling off gold assets in order to maintain the lira exchange rate.
