OREANDA-NEWS The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, complained that Europe had to abandon Russian gas literally "overnight." She acknowledged during her speech in the Australian parliament that this step was painful for European states, RIA Novosti reports.
"Rising fuel prices are painful for our citizens… In Europe, we are rethinking our dependence, especially on Russian gas. There were warning signs, and we learned this lesson in the most difficult way in February 2022," said the head of the EC.
She also invited members of the Australian Parliament to present a situation in which the country would have to immediately stop the sale of iron ore.
"In a sense, that's exactly what we had to do in Europe. Russian gas is banned literally overnight," von der Leyen summed up.
Earlier, Finland announced an energy disaster without Russian gas. According to politician Armando Meme, Europe should reconsider the issue of buying gas from Russia, as the "illegal aggression of the United States and Israel against Iran" puts the interests of the EU first.
