OREANDA-NEWS The State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill on the introduction of criminal liability for illegal mining of cryptocurrencies in Russia.
The document was submitted by the Government of the Russian Federation. It criminalizes the mining of digital currency and the activities of the mining infrastructure operator by persons who are not included in the registers of miners and operators.
We are talking about cases when, as a result of such activities, large-scale income has been received (over 3.5 million rubles), or damage to citizens, organizations or the state has been caused in a similar amount. Such crimes will be punishable by a fine of up to 1.5 million rubles, compulsory labor for 480 hours or forced labor for up to two years.
And if such acts were committed by an organized group or resulted in a particularly large amount of income (currently over 13 million rubles) or caused the same damage to citizens, organizations or the state, then the responsibility increases. In such cases, the fine will range from 500,000 to 2.5 million rubles; forced labor for up to five years or imprisonment for the same period, but with or without a fine of up to 400,000 rubles, is also possible.
In addition, the possibility of confiscation of property is provided for illegal mining and the activities of the mining infrastructure operator.
At the same time, the bill provides for the possibility of exempting from criminal liability those responsible for illegal mining or illegal activities of the mining infrastructure operator, in case of compensation for damage.
