OREANDA-NEWS. August 11, 2011. Transport and road workers of Moldova disputed creation of the new Road Fund at the expense of additional taxes from car owners. The Transport and Road Workers Union and the Federation of Transport and Road Workers Trade Unions of Moldova in their joint statement disagreed with the idea of the Chisinau Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca, emphasizing that the shortage of funds for servicing and maintaining capital’s roads is a result of insufficiency of the budget’s incomes due to the big – 50% - share of shadow economy.

They stressed that half of employees working according to the law cannot provide maintenance of the whole society and solution of all social and economic problems by its taxes. They said it is wrong to impost a double or triple tax upon Chisinau’s transporters and other citizens who work legally, referring to the presence of the shadow economy in the sector.

The statement reads that only as a result of illegal passenger transportation, about 200 mln leis a year aren’t received by the budget. Moldova’s transport and road workers underlined that these funds as well as other resources from different sectors of the national economy that aren’t taken into account by tax structures, should be revealed and transferred to the National Road Fund, money of which cover financial needs, including those of Chisinau.

The statement urges the leadership of the country and Chisinau municipality to take concrete measures to fight shadow economy in different sectors of the national economy.
