OREANDA-NEWS. The Fund for the Resettlement of Muslumovo reports that some 600 families from that village have confirmed their wish to move to other areas. To remind, Muslumovo (the Chelyabinsk region) has suffered from a Soviet-time nuclear project. 260 housing purchase contracts have already been made. Rosatom has paid the residents 1 Mln roubles per family so they can either buy a new house or ask the Chelyabinsk authorities to build new houses for them.

Most of the residents prefer resettling to Chelyabinsk – 110 houses have already been bought there.

“Once you have all necessary documents you can make your contract within 2–3 days. Unfortunately, there are villagers who don’t have ownership rights to their houses or have not lived in the village for a long time and have not been put in the resettlement list. In such a case, the contract-making procedure takes is a bit longer time,” says deputy director of the Fund Sergey Redkikh. “By the end of this year we expect to make contracts with half of the households. A total of 741 households are subject to resettlement,” he added.

Experts say that the people living in Muslumovo and in the basin of Techa River may receive an effective dose of 1 mSvh, which is more than the admissible level (200 mSvh a year).

The relevant law says that the residents of Muslumovo cannot be resettled by force or evacuated. However, for the last 20 years the federal and regional authorities have repeatedly attempted to do it.

In 2006 Rosatom and the Chelyabinsk authorities allocated RUR600 Mln and RUR450 Mln for the project, respectively.
