OREANDA-NEWS The average expenses of Russians in 2024 amounted to 39.5 thousand rubles per month, having increased by 6 percent after deducting inflation (without it — by 17 percent). The relevant data from the Sberindex laboratory is provided by RBC.
Experts found out that Russians began spending more last year by analyzing information from bank cards and terminals, as well as taking into account the demographic structure of the Russian population.
According to her, citizens' expenses increased the most (by 8.8 percent) in the age groups of 25-49 years, who are called "beneficiaries of the growth of labor incomes." At the same time, for those over 75, the indicator decreased by 3.2 percent. The average expenses of Russians reach a peak of 53 thousand per month at the age of 35-39 years, after which they begin to decline steadily, dropping to a minimum of 23.9 thousand at 75-79 years, the authors of the study indicate.
Sberindex also noted that in December last year, Russians' consumer spending decreased month-on-month (by 0.3 percent) for the first time since April. Against this background, Sofia Donets, chief economist of T-Investments, who spoke to reporters, noted that in the Russian Federation we can now talk about the formation of a trend towards a slowdown in consumer demand. "In nominal terms, salaries and expenses tend to stabilize, and inflation is moving away from effective demand, gradually eating into incomes, and moving ahead," the expert commented.
Previously, economists at the Institute of National Economic Forecasting (INP) The Russian Academy of Sciences called the continued growth of inflationary pressure a key risk for the Russian economy. "An increase in producer prices for a wide range of goods and services, along with an increase in excise taxes, fines, taxes and fees, may lead to a decrease in the purchasing power of not only low—income groups of the population, but also the middle class," the INP admitted in January.
